Planning Makes Perfect

Lists make the world a better place. At least they make my world better. I love to make a list almost as much as I love to cross things off. To do lists, grocery lists, lists of lists- I don’t discriminate.

While, I keep my life line Erin Condren Life Planner up to date and I use the goals and to-do sections pretty regularly, I’ve been seriously slacking on my list-making. This means I’ve also been slacking a bit on my productivity.

But not this week. This week, I brought lists back and better than ever. Let’s start with general “to do,” lists. I’m not that busy, but it helps and actually energizes me to write down what I need to do, even just tasks as simple as “make lunch.” And I want it to be easy so I invested in these little journals from Target and they are list making perfection.list making and meal planning

I can make my daily list and pop it in my purse for safe keeping and frequent checking.list making and meal planning

Where I’ve struggled even more than general “to do’s,” is meal planning. It works. It saves time, money and stress but I just can’t seem to be consistent with it. I even bought this amazing meal planning pad from Anthroplogie when I was Christmas shopping. (I needed a treat, too. Don’t judge.)list making and meal planning

At first I think all the details overwhelmed me, but I really embraced it this week and I hope to never turn back. I planned on Saturday, shopped on Sunday, made one little extra trip to the grocery store on Thursday to replenish produce and this week has been ah-mazing. Less stress, less money, more time for other things. Another bonus is we’ve eaten really well and wasted much less. Having a vision of the week, helps me know when and how to plan ahead and that is priceless. list making and meal planning

I am hoping that I can keep this up because it is amazing how much more smoothly the week goes. How do you plan ahead? The comments are a perfect place to start a list of your favorite tips :)

Hope you have a wonderful weekend- put that on your to do list! :)

Pinterest-ing Home Office Updates {Organization}

Pinterest= a healthy way to hoard ideas, challenges, solutions, aspirations and some things you eventually do. I pin more than I do but I finally did. (say that 5 times fast)

Pinterest-ing Home Office Update Inspiration

What I did, was update some organization in our home office. It is a constantly evolving space and every little step I can make in the organizational direction is a huge win. HUGE. (If you want proof- take a look here and here, but be warned it’s not pretty)  Not so long ago I made a trip to the happiest place on earth Container Store and got a few things to control the chaos and it was a system that really worked. home office organizationThe only thing I was waiting for was to make my labels a bit more permanent. I pinned it, so I did it. Thanks to the amazing organizational mothership, I Heart Organizing, I discovered the art of making labels out of Wasabi Tape and that is exactly what I did.pinterest home office organization update

I just covered the tabs in the tape (mine is from Target) and I used my label maker to print on clear labels. Pinned, did.

Moving on to storing all that paper tape I’ve been so obsessed with collecting, I also pinned a solution from I Heart Organizing and corralled it all in a very pretty glass container. Oops, I pinned it again, but I already had the perfect container so it cost me nothing and got this pretty thing out of the garage. Home Office Organization System

Why stop there? While I’m happy with my bucket of Sharpies and pens, I didn’t love it quite at as much as the little caddy I pinned AND seeing it made me remember that I had something very similar. It was my grandmother’s and I just loved it, but didn’t have a use for it (so you can guess where it was sitting #ineedtocleanoutthegarage) Office Organization Sharpie storage

I use one container for fine, one for extra fine and the last for Sharpie pens and some pencils. I have a Sharpie problem, but it really helps to have them all separate.

That’s it for organization, but later this week I’m going to show you a few other pretty little updates that I’ve made in the office. I know you’re on the edge of your seat :) Pinteresting Updates Office Organization

And there you have it- Pinteresting Office Updates! I really have no idea what we did before Pinterest. How could a girl organize her house, cook dinner or get through football, basketball and golf season on TV without Pinterest? I have no idea an I don’t want to find out :)

Jewelry For My Jewelry {Push Pin Makeover}

This project is so easy, I really shouldn’t post it. Really, but that is not going to stop me :)

When I was working on my jewelry organization solution, I was missing one little piece: something to hold everything onto the boards. I used pins in last years model since that was what I had, but they weren’t the most durable. I needed push pins, but all I had were these.

Push Pin Makeover

Hmmm. That just won’t work. What’s a cheap girl to do? I could pick through for all the same colors, but that would be too bright. I could make a Target run, but that costs money. Hmmmm….

Who says you can’t paint a push pin? I’m sure no one ever said you can or can’t paint push pins because who would ever need to paint a push pin? That would be me.

I just stuck them in a box and gave them a few coats of metallic silver. Push Pin Makeover

Seriously, it was that simple. I painted these in less time than I could have driven to Target and decided between silver or clear and they work just as well for hanging my jewelry. Everyone wins. Jewelry Organization

I really just wrote a post about painting a push pin but sometimes it’s the simplest projects that make me so happy. Is that just me? What teeny, little insignificant projects have you done that leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy?

Jewelry Organization: Upgrade

Happy 2013! I know I’m a few weeks late, but better late than never, right?

I have to say I really missed you during my little really long break, but I thoroughly enjoyed the extra time to enjoy Christmas and then recover. With that, I’m back now and like just about everyone around the blogging world I have something on my mind: ORGANIZATION.

I have more problem areas than I would like to admit but one of the biggest is always my closet. I tackled this last year and while it was a start, it didn’t stick. Last week I spent some serious time cleaning out every little nook and cranny, reorganizing, and clearing out the clutter. That part is really not much to show you (meaning the “before” is way too bad and the “after” is much improved for me but probably looks like some of your befores); however, so far it is really working. It’s like having a new wardrobe to be able to see everything (i.e. not dig through it on the floor) and I even found some shoes I forgot I had. Merry Christmas, everyone!

Now, the part of my closet I do want to share with you is my jewelry organization system. Last year, I made huge strides toward my goal with my zero budget-get it done in a day project but it just wasn’t exactly what I wanted. I HATE that this is one of my most frequent pins (repin the update, PLEASE!) It has served it’s purpose, but I’m over the burlap. It’s so 2012 ;)

Jewelry Before

I bought cutlery trays for this purpose forever ago and they have been sitting in the garage ever since. Long story short, I had white spray paint and a free Saturday so I did it! But wait, there’s more! The frame approach actually worked so I just updated that with, you guessed it- more white spray paint! So, want to see it?

Jewelry Organization

To be honest with you, this was a very easy project BUT there are so many little pieces to it that I will share with you later this week but for now, let’s just enjoy it and talk about what I love…

  • There is room to grow and I’m still adding hooks and jewelry pieces.
  • It’s clean, white and just pretty.
  • Why not style it up? I channeled my inner Emily Henderson with the little brass camels #whimsyJewelry Organization

So much better than the old done in a hurry version. This is exactly why I always think you have to continue to evaluate your organizational systems. Sometimes they may be totally wrong and sometimes they may just need a little upgrade- like my jewelry. What about you- do you have a perfect plan in place for your jewelry or do you need an upgrade? What’s working for you? jewelry organization

For the Love of Erin

Office supplies make me a happy girl. Make them pretty and that is my definition of bliss, so you can only imagine the happiness Erin Condren brings me.

I ordered one of her fantabulous Life Planners last year and it was a match made in organized heaven. While I loved it more than appropriate for a planner, there were some issues- like the fact that the tabs didn’t hold up for someone as rough on things as I am.But then something magically happened. The new ones came out with LAMINATED TABS so I splurged and ordered.

My new one came last week and it is even better than last year’s.  There are about a bajillion upgrades to this year’s edition and it just feels better. I may have also added her pens, notepads and a pen holder. Who can put a price tag on organized bliss? In all seriousness, I am very planner picky and even though this one is $50 which is a huge splurge for me, it is worth it for all you get out of it. I use mine to meal plan, keep up with bills to pay and really document our everyday lives. I think I’ll have one every year! Erin Condren for President!

Do you have The Life Planner? How do you use it to keep it all together? Do share!
